Ride bikes to Sausalito festival instead of driving. Parking sucks there. I did this last year - piece of cake.
Rent bikes in the city in North Beach - ride through fisherman's warf, through Ft. Mason, through the Marina Green, through Crissy Field, up and over the Golden Gate Bridge, and coast into Sausalito. Ride through Sausalito (the art festival is in the north end of Sausalito) and easily park your bikes for the festival. Take the ferry with your bikes back to the city. Easy bike ride - two short hills. One from Ghiradelli Square up into Ft. Mason, and a slightly longer one from Crissy Field onto the bridge. Beautiful views everywhere, and some fair exercise.
Personally, I'd skip Fisherman's warf, unless I was going there to eat a quick lunch. But this is a local's view. Mike
Great Union Square find is Hotel Diva. A very chic-esque hotel great for one or two night stay in SF. Each room has contemporary decor that comes with file cabinets for dressers and a dvd player. Great shopping and "A Chorus Line" is right across the street! Check it out! www.hoteldiva.com
Any ideas as to hotels. I am between Redwood Inn or the Francisco Bay Inn. I was going with the Comfort Inn by the Bay but they won't honor a half off coupon. And won't guarantee a room.
Also are there any bicycles built for two? My husband and I did that on Mackinaw Island. Very romantic...
Rather than driving into SF, take the BART. Coming from the north catch the BART in Richmond, from the east in Pleasanton, from the south, in Hayward. Free Parking in Hayward and you get to ride under SF bay. You can get off at Mongomery station and take the cable car to Chinatown, Fishermans Wharf, North Beach or get off at the very first SF station across the bay and you can add the Farmers Market at the south end of the wharfs or Bank One Ballpark. Some things seem out of order on the list. If you start with Ghiredelli you would continue to Fishermans Wharf and the aquarium at Pier 39, then Chinatown. And the Japanese Garden is in Golden Gate Park so do the other stuff first then go to Golden Gate Park. By the way, you could spend days on just the Park as there are lots of other things not mentioned such as an arboretum and conservetory and art museum and next door is the San Francisco Zoo which has some great exhibits, picnic areas, and a playground. Also near Grace Cathedral is Coit Tower. There is a hiking path up to it and the view of the whole City is fantastic. You'll need comfortable shoes because there's a whole lot of walking involved on each of those days.
San Francisco is a truely remarkable city ..golden gate bridge .fishermans wharf.china town .lombard street ,,and dont forget a trolly car ride on the rice a roni car ..all the best of a vacation ..But if you want a truely truely memorable vacation ..Dont forget to take a very sceenic boat ride to Alcatraz and under the golden gate bridge ..i was amazed ..was the highlite of my holliday..dinners were incredible .every restaurant my girlfriend and i went to were very hospitable and the food was mouth watering..Sausalito has incredible views of the bay as we ate at Spinnakers ..its really was a vacationers dream ..I would do it again in a heart beat.
