I took a long weekend to visit Montreal, Canada for their annual Jazz Festival.
I flew on US Airways from New York's Laguardia airport and in just two hours I was in Montreal. American visitors to Canada now need to have a passport.
From the Montreal airport, I took a train to the metro, which ironically enough uses the same cars as the Paris Metro. I bought a 3-day tourist card en francais but realized later that everyone speaks english very well and can switch easily back and forth. I found my bed and breakfast which turned out to be a room in a lovely woman's apartment, so it felt more like visiting a friend than being in a hotel.
After checking in I wandered around the old city which felt very European with it's stone buildings and cobblestone streets.
I was also looking for an interesting apartment building that I had seen on a previous trip, I saw it looking out from one of the piers.
The Jazz Festival was set up with stages around town, you could pick up a map with a schedule and amble around for free.
