We're looking at Budapest to Venice train travel in April and it appears options are limited to Budapest - Zagreb - Venice or Budapest - Munich - Venice
Not sure about bus. Train was about 14 hours and the private sleepers were comfortable but there were a lot of boarder crossings (Hungary-Croatia-Slovenia-Italy) which meant sleep interruptions as our passports were checked by the folks whose country we were leaving and coming to. I know there's been some change since 2007 in boarder crossings within the EU but I don't think Croatia is in on the Schengen zone so entering and exiting may still gum up the works on this route. I can't remember what it cost for a sleeper but I do remember that it was pretty reasonable, in large part because we were paying in Forints rather than Euros.
Does anybody know how much would cost me a night bus or train from Venice to Budapest, and how long is the trip? Are they confortable enought to get a sleep?
The train wasn't that expensive when I went a couple of years ago. A private car can sleep up to three people and you buy the ticket in Budapest and pay in Forints, not Euros. Better exchange rate. Since the train stations in both cities are nicely located in town, I think it would be way more of an ordeal to fly (getting to and from the airport is a pain).
I totally prefer to stay in Venice itself. The city at night is really the best. If this is your first time, you should spend the extra $ to stay in the city. But last time I was there I spent some time in Padua (Padova), about an 45 minute train ride outside Venice and that was a lovely town.
beautiful places I have seen in the screen.
