Road Trip to PA Grand Canyon: NJ to Gaines

Day1

While Ted was fishing with his Dad in Montana , we decided to take a 'girls only' road trip to the Grand Canyon in PA (who knew there was such a thing?) We loaded up the car and headed west first thing on Friday, August 4th. We made our first stop at the Claws and Paws Zoo, just off Route 84 in Hamlin , PA. This is a nice little zoo that seems to specialize in albinos, including their RARE white aligator. We spent about 2 hours meandering the various paths and then got back in the car for our westward trek. Just north of Scranton , we got on 'historic' Route 6, which we would be on for the better part of our 200 mile journey to Gaines, PA. We stopped at The Fireplace restaurant in Tunkahonack for lunch and then again in Troy , PA where an officer saw Alexandra and showed her what the inside of a police car looks like.

Finally, we arrived at our destination: The Rough Cut Lodge in Gaines PA. We had a 2 bedroom cabin with all the amenities and a view of the river and mountains from our back porch. Very peaceful.

For dinner, we went into the quaint town of Wellsoboro, where we ate in the 'Famous'Wellsboro Diner (It's housed in a RR car from the 1930s), strolled up the pretty main street to the central fountain depicting Wynken, Blynken & Nod and then went back to our cabin for some much needed rest.

This was a fun road trip from NJ out to Wellsboro and back, with a day trip up to Corning, NY. I highly recommend the Rough Cut Lodge where we stayed and everyone in our group enjoyed the touring the canyon and visiting the awesome glass museum in corning.

We took a short weekend trip to Wellsboro from New York and loved the quaint little town and the awesome scenery and superb bike riding. We thoroughly enjoyed the Wellsboro Diner and the state Park where the Pa. Grand Canyon is. We will definately return when we have more than a weekend!
