San Ignacio, Belize

We travelled from New York's Laguardia Airport to Belize City, Belize with a short plane change in Charlotte, NC on US Airways  for around $560 per person.  The irony was that it was quicker and cheaper to fly to Belize than travelling to the West Coast of the United States.

At the Belize's Phillip Goldson Airport we caught a "gringo" taxi ($25 US) to the Novela's bus station.  We caught a local bus to San Ignacio, near the border of Guatemala.

Currency note: the Belize dollar is pegged to the US dollar 2 to 1, so exchanging money is easy.  Just pay in US dollars and you will get your change back in Belize.   Guatemala uses Quetzales, named after a brightly colored parrot.

ImageIn San Ignacio we stayed at the Casa Blanca Guest House for around $30 US.

I lived in beautiful Guatemala for nearly 6 years. It is known as "the land of eternal spring". I loved it. And the indigenous people are very special. They are a very skilled and talented, artistic people who love bright colors. THey work very very hard for little money, but family is the most important to them.
