Having browsed through London in a lil over a day and Paris in roughly the same amount of time, our light-speed journey continues onward to Switzerland -- It just occured to me that to someone who doesn't know the time constraints that we had to work with, it must seem we were on speed the entire trip...well, we had just about 12 days to cover: London, Paris, Switzerland, Rome and Venice...in fact, we actually managed to squeeze in a quick day trip to Amsterdam, so ya, you do the math ;)
We boarded our Train in Geneva and soon after, found ourselves marveling at the beauty of the Lake
Geneva and the majestic mountains that surrounded it. Our first trip to Switzerland is off to a great start -- the panoramic train offers great scenery and riding high above in the mountain overlooking the lake is truly breathtaking. None of this seem to impress the rest of the commuters much, including the Saint Bernard in the row behind me.
After changing trains at Montreux, we officially began our ride on the Golden Pass. The Golden Pass is one of the most breathtaking train routes in a country full of out-of-this world train rides. For someone that loves trains, this is as close to heaven as it comes, literally. The route takes you from Montreux to Zweisimmen to Interlaken, and then, onto Lucerne. Words or pictures really doesn't do this ride justice, it's simply something you have to experience to understand, and I highly, highly recommend doing so. After weaving through the mountains, at times high above the lakes, and passing a dozen or so picturesque little Swiss towns along the way, we finally arrived in Interlaken, the jump-off point for many travelers to explore natural beauties of this land.
A little disoriented from 8+ hour of train ride, we had a lil bit of trouble finding our hotel at first, but with the help of a friendly local Chinese/Korean restaurant owner, in no time, we were standing in front of our hotel -- Goldey Swiss Q. Situated right on the river bank, the hotel overlooks the town of Interlaken with a dramatic view of the Swiss Alps as the backdrop -- it wasn't until I set foot onto our balcony did I fully understand why people raved about this place on TripAdvisor. The view is just priceless:
i'm traveling to interlocken in 3 weeks......i can't wait.
your pics have inspired me.
thanks for sharing them.
