A rocky start

We flew out Thursday night. We were worried about Sidney's behavior on the plane. It turns out that she was fantastic. We should have worried about a plane full of drunk twenty something males headed to Las Vegas for the weekend. Specifically, there were three kids that had the mentality of a six year old that sat behind us. It was very upsetting and a number of passengers complained. JetBlue didn't do anything. I'm going to write a letter to the company because they should have done a better job instead of just taking the cash and keeping the booze flowing.

Image We arrived in Las Vegas around 10p local time and checked into the Orleans hotel and went straight to bed.  We flew the day of the terrorist plot to bring down ten airplanes was foiled so we were thrilled to make it to Las Vegas in one piece.

Mission accomplished, Viva Las Vegas!

Vegas is not a family vacation...We took our daughter there, when my wife and I were recently married only so that she could be part of the wedding...on the whole that was the high point...Circus Circus is a dump....the place needed a wrecking ball. It was gross and just plain unsanitary.

We stayed at Excaliber thinking it too was going to be family friendly...no it is a casino and always will be. Use your head and keep the kids at home--it is fun for adults, but no place to entertain a family...Go to Disneyland for that.

Do you really want to take childen to a city that has a slogan that read's: "If it happens in Vegas it stays in Vegas"? That slogan implies immorality, ex. adultery. If you take your children there...avoid the strip. If you take children there watch them close. There are many "freaks" and perverts. There are flyers with nude women littering the ground advertising brothels. Vegas has a long way to go to be safe for children. The amusement rides are unbelievably expensive. Take your children to a dude ranch, skiing in Colorado or Disneyland. They are more wholesome and do not promote vices and perversion.

Ok everyone that lives in Vegas with children has to leave right now, you are no longer allowed to live there. And the people who think that the kids don't belong there will pay for your moving expenses, isn't that nice. Thank God these people don't own the world!

Are you nuts? Vegas is not for children. I would never take any children there. I should know I just came from there on a recent trip. The place is littered with pornography, cigarrete smoke, and alcohol. Definitely, not a place to take kids. Disney is still the best bet.

Lily19600,

If you took the time to actually read my travel journal, it would have answered your questions.

I would NEVER take my kids to Vegas!!!!! and they're teenagers!!!! Why in the world would anyone take two small children there? However, the Grand Canyon is a wonderful place for a family vacation, Why didnt you spend more time there with your family and save Vegas for an "adults only" vacation?

My husband and I lived in CA for a year (military) and went to vegas a few times, we aren't drinkers or gamblers but enjoyed the sites and the more fun family things to do we didn't have a child then but do now and I would take him. I love the rain in Aladdin's Castle we watched it and ate a Ben and Jerry's ice cream.

I was there last year with my 15 year old son and 15 year old nephew and we had plenty to do. The kids loved the pool at the Mirage. We went to Red Rock Canyon(25 minutes from the strip)and did some climbing. They loved "We will Rock You" at Paris,Paris and enjoyed Mystere' at Treasure Island. They were a little too old for Circus,Circus but found a few rides par for their age. We took a helicopter tour of the city at night and enjoyed the fountain and Pirate shows (both free). It's not cheap if you want to keep them happy but you'll find plenty of things to do. Be sure to find a hotel that has a large pool for the daytime activities (Such as the Mirage or the Flamingo).

I take my girls, ages 10 and 8, with me to Vegas every year, and together we absolutely have a blast. Vegas is only as good or as bad as you want to make it, and no matter where you go there's going to be hookers, whores, sleazebags, and drunks. I live in the LA area, surrounded by a night life, and probably surrounded by the same fools that trek all the way across the desert to drink in Las Vegas as they do every other weekend to drink in LA; but that doesn't mean my children shouldn't be in LA.

I've been going to Las Vegas for ten years, and have yet to find myself in a compromising situation. If you think that Las Vegas isn't for children, then you might want to absolutely rethink your system of values, moral, and behaviors. (Heck, you're probably the reason Las Vegas has the reputation it has, and perhaps YOU SHOULD STAY AT HOME!!!!!!)

And really, what good is anyone doing by hiding their children from realities of the world we live in??? Vegas is on planet Earth, and probably what everyone is afraid of is that in reality, Vegas is a true test of human behavior; a test of your sentiments as a person. In reality, because of its reputation, while in Vegas, everyone lets their guard downs, and acts in the manner of their real self's, and not the front they put on while at home.

kids live in the middle east doesn't mean they should be there..vegas is known for GAMBLING!!! even you dont think so but that's how they make millions of dollars, not from sightseeing with the kids!!
