2006 - The Netherlands

Since our two year old doesn't travel well yet, we left her with her grandparents. We were worried about leaving her since we had never left her or our older daughter for eight days. It turned out that she didn't even miss us. :)

The three of us boarded our United flight from Dulles at 5pm Thursday night for The Netherlands . They are six hours ahead of us so we arrived in Amsterdam  at 7am Friday morning fully jetlagged but excited to be in a foreign country and very excited to see our neighbors who had moved back to Holland. We hadn't seen them in a year and we really missed them.

Schiphol airport in Amsterdam is very modern. It took a few minutes to get used to military personal walking around with machine guns but I saw that's just the way security is in Europe.

Bert said when I arrived to "stand under the Vodofone sign." It sounded funny when he told it to me but when we arrived, we saw a huge, unmistakable advertisement outside the airport for Vodone. We carried our luggage over there and waited less than 10 minutes before we saw Bert's station wagon pull up.

Our vacation had officially begun.
