This trip was exciting right from the day Vandana sent out an email about a plan to meet...We planned this for nearly three weeks and it was pretty interesting especially with Vivek regularly advocating the use of trip Planner!!
Day 1
I woke up in the morning of the 14th July only to read an email from Vivek that he wouldnt be able to make it.. This sounded a bitter blow. Pleading earnestly for him to come..Jeff and I saddled up..and were all set to take the long journey..to the Crater.
After nearly 9 hours of drive and hearing the good news that Vivek would indeed join us..we landed in the campground wherein the california gang had already arrived. Welcome crew..Dont they look like miners?
We were tired..after some little bit of struggling in the dark we managed to put up our tents. Soon we had to get our fire going...This proved to be a tough task indeed. Vivek our camp guide had asked us to bring fire logs...not seattle type wet fire wood which refused to burn. Thanks to the daring of Vandana and Sriram who borrowed some starter "something" we soon had a small fire going..
Now that the fire was burning and mosquitoes were away..we started our favorite task of this camping adventure..Eating..
Vandan had made some delightful biriyani and me some Chicken gravy. Vipin, the head cook of this trip made the Raitha and soon we were all set for a sumptious dinner
After some chit chatting we all decided to hit the bed....The night was dark...and this was a place..where we could hear the silence.
The plan was to fall asleep..but that took us more than an hour due to constant murmuring from neighboring tents....:) You see, in the city we are so much used to noise..that we really dont know what is silence..In the wilderness where we camped..even a whisper was so loud!!
We went to sleep..but we had made one mistake..we had forgotted to give Cilly awatch and car keys..
DAY 2
He woke up early and unable to go back to sleep he made sure that all of us woke up too!! Well we eventually did and soon Vipin and Vivek were busy making some tea.
Sriram and Vandana were the chief wood collectors and they managed to collect enough twigs to survive the morning chills
Breakfast was an elaborate affair.. Idly and Dosa!!
Vipin made super thin dosais...and idlies too.
Well...as you can see below Sriram seems to be checking out the Idlies..However dont be fooled.. This is a shot just for the camera?
After the heavy meals and wondeful showers we were soon on our way to Crater lake!!
The lake was awesome and the blues amazing..
We decided after some debating about the "Strenuous" Cleetwood cove trail to hike down to the the waters of the Crater lake. It was disappointing that the boat trip to Wizard Island sold out just as we went to the place. However we decided to trek down and it was an interesting hike.
We meet at Crater lake campgrounds and then go to any other places nearby also..
there is one problem..if we leave on a friday afternnon we will reach only by night....most suggestions I see are that we should be there by afternoon since there are no reservations possible in Crater lake..
so what do we do? and can we put up the tents in the night?
Vipin/Sriram.. I think you guys are working hard...take some timeout and decide on the place/dates soon.
What about the tents?
We need to get tents too.
And the cooking material you have suggested will be enough to cook for bachelors only :)
