POSSIBLE CAMPSITES FOR ME AND MAX EN ROUTE:

New River Trail State Park- primitive camping open and available

Hungry Mother State Park- one primitive camping space left open; location assigned upon arrival; check in time is 4 pm

James River State Park- one primitve camping space left; shaded location; parking available; no water available; canoe landing area; each site has a fire ring and a picnic table; also has kayaking, canoeing, innertubing and other river sports

I have not take my trip yet. Just one comment. It apparently the distance provided by Yahoo is terribly wrong. Here is one example,Starting from:
