The gathering

ImageToday the gang arrived! Ally, Erik, Lori and myself met Cody, Niki, Rick, Sarah, Chris, and Carl at Buchanan Station in Glasgow and then we bought our bus tickets to Moffat. We had a couple hours to kill before the bus arrived so we found breakfast for the starving travellers. While they were eating, Ally got a free makeover at the Body Shop because she was advertising herself as a bride.

Then the ten of us got on our bus to Moffat and checked into the Black Bull Hotel and Pub where we first met our friend Steve, who never sleeps, and is the best barman/concierge/bellman/manager you can ask for.

ImageI took Niki on a tour of Moffat with Rick and Cody. Niki was itching for a Tour by Laura, but seeing all of Moffat took less than an hour. Eventually more guests arrived and we partied in the pub. It was super fun, of course.

Once everyone arrived we decided to go around the room and have everyone introduce themselves. There were some good stories - Cody said he liked Ally long before he met me. Niki said the only reason she was there was to steal Erik and ruin the wedding, and she just brought her husband as a cover. Erik's baby brother Ricky stood up and said "Hi, I'm Ricky, and I'm an alcoholic" which had the room howling. It was pretty much impossible for anyone to top that.  We kept the drinks coming and celebrated the upcoming wedding into the early night.

ImageAbout this time, Uncle Garry decided the men should be taking Erik out for his stag so they left the Black Bull Pub to hit all four bars in Moffat. We decided to take advantage of this and left the put to take Ally on her hen night. We ended up in the building directly beside our hotel, a bar owned by the hotel. We drank, played darts, and watched the moms dance the night away before the men showed up and crashed our party. This turned out to be a good thing though because they bought us drinks and gave the moms dance partners.

Don't feel bad about missing out on seeing Hamish! On my honeymoon, he gouged me in the side with one of his horns. I did notice on my last trip there that he know has a much taller fence!

Look to these journeys for it is an adventure The very life of the realities and verities of existence, The bliss of growth,The splendor of action, The glory of homeward bound-

For yesterday is but a dream, And tomorrow is only a vision, But today, well lived, Makes every yesterday a dream of happiness And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look to this day For it is life The lives of Scotland, In its brief course lie Edinburgh.

I was interested reading about Scotland as my dad's parents came from Aberdeen. I never had the privilege of visiting Scotland though. From the above accounts, the only places visited were shops, eateries, hotels and bars!! Not my cup of tea. I would like to have visited cathedrals and gardens and churches and meeting local people. Do Scotch people love gardening a much as the English? I would love to have visited the moors, seen the heather, bracken, wild life and wild birds. Since I was born and raised in England, (now retired and living in Hawaii), I miss hearing the songs of skylarks, blackbirds, thrushes and robins (yes, I am a "bird person!"). I think my paternal grandparents were from the Black Hills in the Aberdeen area. It would have been interesting to have researched family history there. I am now 81 years old, so am not able to travel too well. Thank you for reading my thoughts!

Scotland the land of my forfathers and after visiting I can see some of the reasons why they left.... It rains about 280 days a year, there is no flouride in the water (hence the beautiful Scotish smile), and the Scots are consumed by their blood (ie money) they like to make it and take it from you. Everything is so, excuse the pun, "bloody expensive".....anyway the green on the rolling hills will dazzle your senses and they do know how to pour a good pint of beer. I think pubs were invented on rainy days.....Top of the mornin to ya mate ....bottoms up & SCOTLAND FOREVER !!!
