Day 1: Arriving in Maui
We flew into Maui on schedule, passing up a bump that would have given us each a $400 voucher on ATA - we could have come to Hawaii again next year! Our flight path took us around the south side of Maui so we got a good view of Haleakala and the west Maui mountains.
We stopped at the Safeway on the way to our hotel to pick up some breakfast supplies and snacks. We had brought sandwitches on the plane for dinner so we weren't hungry. We planned to get up at 3:30 Hawaii time (6:30 Tucson time) to drive to the top of Haleakala to view the sunrise, so we went to bed early.
