The flight is uneventful, and I actually land at JFK slightly ahead of time. Now, a cab really is the ideal way to enter a new city. Forget the subway, you can't see anything down there. Driving into Manhattan at night, the city skyline is so beautiful and familiar, I want to just wrap NYC up in a big bow and take it home with me. Plus there's a flat rate of $45 from JFK to any spot in Manhattan. Can't beat that.
I get to Kim's place, which is smack dab in the middle of Soho. We get ready to go out to her neighborhood bar, Cafe Noir. It's totally adorable--cozy, nice atmosphere, and tres European. We grab a big tapas platter and about a gazillion glasses of wine. Every once in a while, the bartenders make these pineapple-flavored shots and pass them around the whole bar for a group toast. Hello, hangover.
Oh yeah, and there's no mention of NYC nightlife. Who goes to NYC and doesn't experience the nightlife? That's the best part. Only place better would be Ibiza.
