The first day was saved to organize ourselves and get the things prepared.
We planned our stay, like where to go and what to do in 5 days; we exchanged some traveller checks and here is the tip: They recommend you to go to the Bank of China, which was 1 min walk from our hotel. The problem was, they charge you 7.5% fee over the total amount. Come on, it's awfully high. If you have a chance, take the subway up to Fuxingmen
Station, walk 5 min and go to the Bank of Communications (33, Jing Rong Dajie - Xi Cheng District - a.k.a. "Financial Street"). It's not the best service in the world but they exchange your TC by a fair rate and charge you no fee at all.
For the dinner, we went to the "Cafe Arcadia", in the Oriental Plaza. We asked for a non-smoking area, the hostess said "sure, no problem", and took us to a separate room. 5 min later, 3 people on the next table start smoking. When she came with our drinks I reminded her about our request, she smiled and said "sorry, in fact we don't have a non-smoking area". So, why did she say "no problem"? They rather lie to you than loose a sale. The fact of the matter is, we had dinner a couple of times in that shopping centre, but never came back to that restaurant and we probably never will.
