New Journal Entry
I knew we couldn't possibly do all the things listed in this itinerary, but the way I like to plan my trips is to plot out all the things that might be of interest to us, line them up loosely based on proximity, and then play it by ear once we're there. We then just look at the list of possibilities and do whatever we feel like at that moment.
A suprising hghlight of this trip was walking across the Brooklyn Bridge (a beautiful sunshiney day) and eating authentic NY-style pizza at Grimaldi's Pizzeria, then letting the kids run around Fulton Ferry Landing and enjoying an ice cream at the foot of the bridge.
Being the holiday weekend, sights like the Empire State Building had long lines winding down the street and around the corner. After two attempts, we gave up.
A relaxing alternative view of the Stature of Liberty can be enjoyed aboard the free/low-cost Staten Island Ferry.
We loved the Park Central NY Hotel. I'd stayed there a few times before on business, and found it very conveniently and centrally located. We became "regulars" at the corner Starbuck's and deli/convenience store next door.
And, of course, nothing can put you in the Christmas spirit faster than the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and getting photos made with the "real" Santa Claus at Macy's on 34th Street! I wish we could make Thanksgiving in New York a family tradition!
