South Korea: an overview

If you are considering somewhere completely out of the ordinary for your next holiday, you may want to consider South Korea. With extensive history, monuments, fortresses and a culture that is sure to leave an impression, holidays to South Korea could be just what you’re looking for.

South Korea

Located in the eastern part of Asia, South Korea is on the Korean Peninsula bordered by the Yellow Sea, the Sea of Japan and the South China Sea. Most of the region is quite mountainous, which only adds to its charming geography and pleasant year round climate.

What to do

If you are travelling around South Korea on a holiday, there are literally hundreds of things to see and do from shopping centres and discos to ancient gardens and palaces. This area is a hot tourist destination with people from around the world. Most people visit South Korea for business or for recreation. It’s a known fact that the South Koreans party as hard as they work, which means they enjoy a great and varied nightlife.

What to see

Korea holds its ancient temples and modern buildings in the highest regard, which can easily be noticed as the country has some of the finest cultural temples and entertainment resorts in the world. It is a fascinating place to explore culture. If in Seoul, don’t miss seeing Namsan Park, the National Fold Museum or the Dongmyo Temples.

In the metropolitan city of Gwangju are major sites that include Songnisan National Park, Seoraksan National Park, the War Memorial, and Ulleundgo Island. While exploring this great South Korean city, make sure to try some local cuisine.

The city of Buscan is ideal for visitors who are seeking some beach time or tourist resorts while the city of Daegu is where many of South Korea’s famous parks and temples are located. Here you will easily find numerous Buddhist temples as well as the Korean War Museum and the beautiful Apsan Mountain that offers a gondola to its peak.

Being as most international visitors go to Seoul to experience the old and new aspect of Korean culture, there are many famous historical attractions in South Korea. From the grand cities of Buyeo, Seoul and Gyeongju where tourists will find a deluge of historical monuments, there are also many natural wonders worth a visit.

Natural landmarks

South Korea is stunning with its numerous mountains. The tallest peaks, which belong to Baekdudaegan, Jiri-san and Seorak-san in particular, are well noted with tourists on their holidays to South Korea . Other natural wonders include the wondrous caves of Samcheok and Danyand, and the spectacular beaches of Mallipo and Haeundae, which are just as popular with visitors. Visitors also go to South Korea for its plentiful islands that make the ideal place to relax and get away from it all. Excursion ferries to these islands can be picked up along the west and south coast of South Korea.
