Day One Travel Info
Arrived at the Orlando airport 2 hrs in advance for our international flight to London Heathrow via Boston's Logan airport. We are sitting for about half an hour and our gate changes, so we trek on over to another gate, only to be told that our flight is delayed by 2o minutes due to bad weather in GA. No worries! Then, 10 minutes before boarding, they delay our flight another hour and 10 minutes and sneak in that we may not make out connecting flight to London. Really???? Our flight from MCO was suppose to leave at 6:10pm, we left at 7:45. The weather up the east coast was so poor, that we had to take the long way around through OHIO??? OKAY! Mid flight we are told that we will not make our connections.....sadness sets in since I am really looking forward to seeing the Dr. Who Experience and I have already purchased tickets....Oh well With only 15 minutes left in our flight to Boston,we are told the exciting news that they are holding our flight to London since sooooooo many people are on our flight coming in from MCO. Jumping for joy at this point!!!!. Delta was very nice and informative during this whole situation and both of our flights were great and very comfy since they were not full and my hubby and I got to share a whole a whole row each time. .....Customs was a breeze and the airport (under major work),was pretty quiet overall. We chose to go with Heathrow Connect vs Heathrow Express to Paddington, to save a couple dollars. My personal suggestion is NOT TO DO THIS!!! WHY??? The savings is not worth the time wasted waiting for the train to come. BUT!!! the super good news is that due to construction in the tunnels, they upgraded us to Express and we only pd for connect!!! SOOO........we ended up NOT having to wait after all.
The children will stay with either their grandparents in FL or their aunt and uncle in NC, not sure which way to go yet. FL is easiest and less expensive since we live here, but NC would be more fun for the kids because they get to see their cousins, but will need to be driven there and back and that means lots of gas money!
Rebooked our London hotel from The Stylotel to a studio apartment. Not really sure why except that I've had reservations about staying at the Stylotel since I booked it, no offense to the hotel. It's just so risky booking from the US, no matter how many reviews you read, you never know till you show up as well as everyone having different requirements and expectations. I happened upon a site that had vacation rentals and figured I'd take a chance and booked a studio very close to Paddington station. It is the exact same price as the Stylotel, minus the breakfast, but since we are not breakast ppl anyway, no loss there. Will let everyone know how that goes!
Highlights of this trip for me are the theatre and seeing Much Ado About Nothing in London with one of my favorite actors; David Tennant as well as attending the outdoor Minnack Theatre out near Penzance. Not sure my husband feels the same way, but he's a great guy for "going along" with it! Also looing forward to the Therme Baths in Bath. Was there last year and watched the sunset from the roof pool...breathtaking to say the least!
A bit nervous about the driving, I won't be doing it, my husband will...enough said!
We will be hiking quite a bit, which I fully enjoyed when I was in the UK last year with friends and I know my husband will enjoy since he is a marathon runner.
Will try to journal as much as possible and give updates on the good, bad and the ugly goings on while away.

Bought some great luggage today, well packs I guess..WEEKENDER eTECH CONVERTIBLE as well as Eagle Creeks Pack it folders. We are going to try and take only one carry on each as well as a backpack each. 10 days, one carry-on...should be interesting.

Why do they keep on talking about it? I also wondered why.
Just like you, I was also puzzled every time they try to conceal it when they include it
In the topic. All I know, This is the place for cheap breaks...
