Visiting Down Under? Start with a tour of Melbourne, Australia’s second most populous city and often called Australia's garden because of the abundance of its parks and gardens. The tree-lined avenues, landscaped vistas and the city’s well-preserved colonial buildings are just some of the attractions that tourists can enjoy.

Melbourne is an international cultural center and the second city to be declared as UNESCO City of Literature, after Edinburgh. The city also boasts of many theaters, galleries and museums, cinemas and other cultural venues. The world first feature film was produced in Melbourne.

Here is a three-day itinerary recommended by City-Discovery to tourists wanting to visit the Land Down Under. This Melbourne itinerary introduces visitors to the city main attractions and must-do activities.

Melbourne’s Best

This is the most comprehensive tour for visitors in Melbourne. The tour takes tourists to the city’s main sights like Federation Square, St Paul's Cathedral, Royal Exhibition Buildings, St Patrick's Cathedral, Arts and Cultural Centre, tree lined St Kilda Road, and many other buildings. Get a spectacular view of the city from the Bolte Bridge  and admire the ornate Victorian terraced homes. Visit the historic Williamstown and the Royal Botanic Gardens.

After the city tour, proceed to the Western Port  to view different species of birds and mangroves. This tour continues well until the evening so be sure to bring warm clothing as nights can be very cold outdoors.

Take in the lovely panoramic views of French Island and San Remo, a maritime fishing village. Watch out for  wallabies and kangaroos on through the trip as the tour stops at the Phillip Island Nature Park. This park is also a sanctuary for koalas, seals, and little penguins. Watch large colonies of fur seals at Seal Rocks and witness the penguin parade, a magnificent homecoming of fat and furry birds at night at the floodlit Summerland Beach. See the penguin rookeries from an elevated boardwalk and get a glimpse of the life of the penguins.
