Many travelers know Milan primarily as Italy's fashion capital. Milan is home to the oldest shopping mall in the world, the Galleria Vittoria Emmanuele in the Piazza Duomo, but it has Leonardo da Vinci’s world-famous Last Supper painting in one of its museums.

Statistics showed that a tourist in Milan stays an average of three days in the city, enough to cover most of the attractions in the city. By planning an itinerary weeks before your visit to Milan, you can select the attractions you want to visit and include nearby cities in your schedule. As a transportation hub of Italy, Milan has a network of high speed train lines that links the cities of Florence, Rome, Bologna, Turin and Naples.

Here’s a recommended three-day itinerary which includes a tour of the city’s landmarks, a trip to nearby cities and of course, a shopping trip to Milan’s fashion districts.

Day and Night in Milan

Start your first day in Milan, not with shopping, but a trip to the Pinacoteca di Brera, a museum found inside the Brera Palace. The museum houses a collection of masterpieces by Piero della Francesca, Giovanni Bellini, Mantegna, Raphael, Tintoretto and Caravaggio. Visit the church of San Marco and explore the surrounding area of the museum where you can find galleries and bars frequented by artists and students.

In the afternoon, get a panoramic view of the city as you spend one hour on a walking tour to visit  The Scala, Duomo and the Vittorio Emanuele II Gallery. View "The Last Supper", the world-famous painting of Leonardo da Vinci, located near the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie.

Experience the Milanese nightlife to cap your first day in the city. Go on an evening sightseeing tour of Milan’s landmarks before going on club-hopping in the districts of Navigli Corso Como, Corso Garibaldi and Brera.
