From San Antonio to Beijing

Image
Day 1 and 2 (May 11 - 12) was spent traveling from San Antonio to Beijing. We took flights from San Antonio to Houston, Houston to San Francisco, and San Francisco to Beijing. We left at about 3 a.m. in San Antonio and arrived in Beijing at 6 p.m. We had a pleasant trip for the most part. There was a flight we almost missed connecting from Houston to San Francisco but we made it!

After we arrived at the Beijing airport, we went through customs and Imagemet with the rest of our tour group and the tour guide. It is a group of 14 and we will be with them for the next 10 days. We have met all but one who arrived in Beijing early.

ImageThe tour guide took us to our hotel (Hua Bin International Hotel) via a tour bus. When we got there I was very impressed. The hotel is beautiful. I was a little concerned because it is listed as a four star hotel. However, this hotel is nicer than man four star hotels in the U.S.

The Midair Wire Walking and picking medicinal herbs from the steep cliffs at Lingyan

On the Heavenly Pillar Peak opposite to Xiaolongqiu Waterfall, the performance is put on twice a day, including the midair wire walking and picking medicinal herbs from the steep cliffs. In the past, the villagers had a rope tied to their waist and pick medicinal herbs from the precipices to earn money to support their families. Now they put on the show to display their stunts. The performers once lived at the headstream of Dalongqiu Waterfall. After many years’ practice, they are able to walk freely on the steep cliffs.

The Midair Wire Walking at Lingyan is performed between the Heavenly Pillar Peak and Flag Display Peak. Both of the peaks are 200 m high, and the space between them is over 200 m. With the blue sky as the curtain and the steel wire as the stage, two performers appear in the air between the two towering peaks. One rides the bike, and the other does various movements. Now he shows a monkey playing by a well, and now he turns a somersault in the air. These breathtaking actions will make every visitor gasp in admiration. The interactive items, such as throwing embroidered balls to the audiences, will push the performance to the climax.

Accompanied by the Leqing local folk songs, a person in red clothes appears at the peak’s top. All of a sudden, he jumps down from the precipice and falls down at a high speed. Seeing the scene, all the tourists will be worry about him. However, the performer falls on a precipice calmly, jumps from cliff to cliff and gathers medicinal herbs. He is as nimble and skillful as the spiderman shown in the film. When the audiences have just felt relieved, he turns a somersault all of sudden, and drops down directly. All the viewers will scream with fear. It takes only seven to eight minutes for the performer to go down from the top to the foot of the mountain

Divine Eagle, Gallant Knights and Yandang Mountain

The picturesque scenery of Yandang Mountain attracted the crew of the TV drama Divine Eagle, Gallant Knights. Dragon Lady and Yang Guo deduced a romantic love story on the Heartbroken Rock. Today tourists can still see the stone tablet on the rock set up by Dragon Lady. An inscription on the stone tablet reads: “We’ll meet here again after 16 years; a passionate couple will keep our word.” The love story between Dragon Lady and Yang Guo add some romance to this scenic spot.

I know! I'm so excited! We will have the opportunity to shop in every city but Hong Kong is notorious for its shoping districts. There is an entire district dedicated to antiques! We will visit a number of shopping districts in Hong Kong.
