We have some guys in the Bangalore Yahoo! office that are joining our team, so I'm here to bring them up to speed on things.
Elections are local mayor and statewide legislators, of sorts, from what I understood of the explanations. No, nothing contentious or dangerous or anything. I don't know anything in depth about them though.
Yeah, that project closes a chunk of a very main street, just down the road from where that picture was taken. Definitely slows down the traffic jams, but there would likely be those traffic jams regardless.
for those of us not in the know, what exactly was the purpose of your trip? besides the generic "for work." also, i find it interesting, germans don't put two spaces after a period. also, most don't know it's called a period in english, they were taught "full stop." which is british, so i guess it's not really wrong, but it sounds like they're dictating a telegram :) are the elections anything contentious there? are they national elections, local, what's the skinny, i haven't paid any attention to be quite honest. and i like the new pics, i suppose that's the same public transit project that's been causing all the detours?
Do the mini bananas have big black seeds/pits in them (similar to Thai bananas)? Glad to see you found your espresso. I was planning on meeting you at the airport with a (most likely lukewarm) double espresso as I feared you may be going through severe withdrawal at that point. ;) And yes, I was going to brave the look of disgust when I ordered an espresso 'to go'. Was the wine you tried a rice wine or grape based wine? Has the weather been warm? I just checked out the yahoo map of Bangalore - I hadn't realized how central it was within the country. The map indicates there are a ton of little bodies of water surrounding the city as well - is Bangalore a low point in elevation? What are your plans for Saturday? I pick up the CSA tonight - chard, green garlic, rutabagas, new potatoes and more in store! Hope day four at the office is going well!
Sounds like you're doing a fair bit of exploring. It's a blast reading about your impressions and comparing them to our trip last year. Keep it coming!
aren't you fancy "catches a breeze as you walk" :) i'd be curious what other things they're doing to curb that traffic in the long run, but that's definitely not related to your trip. now go stop blaming things on my beard and get to work ;)
Yeah, I guess I third the height and goofy hair, especially when it kicks up in front when it catches a breeze as I walk... I always tried to convince myself it was Kev's beard ;)
The tech park that the Yahoo! office is in is really nice. I took two photos from out the window today, but they have a bunch of window glare; I'll have to take them earlier in the day tomorrow and get them posted.
The elevated structure is for a public transit railway line. They've been building it for 5 years now, and the work is expected to continue for another 1-3 years (depending on whom you talk to). The hope is that it will clear out some of the traffic, especially the large buses. In the meantime it's disrupted one of the main streets of the city, sending traffic in looping detours, down other streets that probably weren't made for that extra traffic.
I aim to take more pics, and keep better track of exactly which food I'm eating.
Your adventure looks awesome! So glad you're having fun (and taking your malaria pills). ;) I can't wait to hear all the details. . . and about the food! Are you drinking lots of tea or have you miraculously managed to seek out a decent espresso?? Love the shot of the dense housing. Will you take a shot of the Yahoo headquarters? I would so love to be there exploring with you! Have fun! Besos. (In Kitty News: She is currently passed out sprawled out on the couch with me; she's on her back with her back legs and tail strewn over my lap.)
