January 2010
It's that time of year where must do my research and spend my family's generous Birthday $/gifts getting visas and vaccines. But I just confirmed that, since I'm sticking to relatively urban areas this year, I do not require any new inoculations. Yay! No malaria meds...double yay! (I was plagued by relatively mild cases of EVERY POSSIBLE side effect last year - which definitely slowed me down. Remember that dream about the bologna phone my sister needed to save Shediac from the floods...I blame the meds ;-)
Next week I must go through the RIGMAROLE of applying for a Brazilian Visa. And last fall, Argentina introduced a reciprocal entry fee that will be an annoying (but painless) cash grab upon arrival. Total cost $250. More than the flights @ $220 in taxes and fees (+ 50,000 aeroplan points(to get there and back) + 12,500 american advantage points (to get from Montevideo to Rio de Janeiro (via Santiago de Chile and Sao Paolo - that's like flying from New Orleans to New York via Los Angeles and Philadelphia - free comes at a price ;-))
Also time to book the accommodations. Trying to keep transportation and accommodations under $1,000 = $220 + another $100 for a hydrofoil and a couple buses leaves me with $680 for 22 nights....That's an average of $31/night....let's see what that buys me...
Also, I saw many posters for the movie: La Gran Fiesta the Coco. I didn´see it, looked like a spanish version of weekend at Bernies.
Happy Easter
