Really? Chili's?

The punchline: We had dinner at Chili's.
The joke: What "Mexican" restaurant did you choose for your first San Diego cuisine experience?

Let me explain.

We started our Thursday with some typical pre-transcontinental errands--an oil change, photocopying math homework...you know, the usual. At 10:00, in a rush, we drove the doggies to Camp Bow Wow, then zipped over to the airport thinking we might make an 11:00am flight (flying standby). As it happened, we were booked for a lighter flight at 2:30pm (delayed till 3:10) which gave me plenty of time to go back to the car to retrieve a wallet. (I must say, the Economy Parking Shuttle at the Indianapolis Int'l Airport  is as fast and friendly as ever.)

Security at the new midfield terminal was a breeze, and soon we set about exploring our updated home base. Indy now has the feel of a real 21st century airport, what with its iPod vending machines, Wolfgang Puck Express, and CNBC Indianapolis news kiosks. The best improvement by far however is the greatly-reduced taxi from jetway to runway. It no longer seems as though you're driving to your destination.

Had a wee bit o' stress descending into Phoenix; after embarking 40+ minutes late, the flight attendants apparently decided no one with a connection to San Diego would have a prayer of making it, so they ommitted our flight  from the list of connecting gates.    We made it with a few minutes to spare thanks to a fortuitous gate assignment, and the lateness of our next plane.  We touched down in San Diego around 5:00pm local time, trying to plan things to do that evening. We both agreed we required sustinance before setting out for the rental car place.

Funny thing about San Diego's airport - it offers rather few dining options on the wrong side of security. (I surmised that the extreme length of the primary security line was due to passengers looking for better food.) The main terminal house Chili's and...Starbucks. I dunno....a grande triple non-fat latte and an English muffin with spinach and Hollandaise for dinner?

The fire-grilled chicken fajita quesadillas were delicious.
