Picked up my best bud at 8am and went to eat breakfast at MickeyD's. Then we hit the road a little before 9am. The drive went good, stopped at the welcome center off I-85 and picked up some brochures. We drove across highway 18 to US 27 into Pine Mountain. I picked up some discount coupons for the safari at the welcome center. We saw the cabin on the way and got to the safari park with no problems. It was busy. Bought our tickets and had about a hour and half wait for a van, no way was I gonna drive my car! We checked out the gift shop and did the walk through. A couple of the animals seemed big to be in a enclosed habitat. It is well kept though. The buzzer finally went off and we got the key to a Ford Aerostar, it did not have any power steering! I drove it anyway and just had to flex my muscles some, ha-ha! The tour buses were running and the animals did not approach the vehicles as well as they do when they are not so busy. We did have some longhorns that stuck a nose in and would not move out of the road, just had to nudge them with the van a little bit and blow the horn! It was an adventure and is not something most people get to experience everyday.
We went to the cabin from there to check-in. The cottage/cabin was very cozy and it was sufficient for our needs for two nights, it did have a small bathtub which was preferred to just a shower stall. One big plus is they provided linens! This is a very nice RV resort/park. We decided to eat at Three Lil Pigs and headed over. It is not very big but the food was AMAZING! I definitely recommend them. I forgot sunscreen so we stopped by Dollar General (NO trips to Walmart at all on this trip!) for sunblock and some snacks. I was trying to time everything so we could watch the first Alabama football game of the season. We went to the pool and got in the hottub. The kids loved the water area. We saw a few hot air balloons. The pool closes at 8pm which was perfect because we got to see the kickoff. The kiddos could not stay awake to see all of the game (ROLL TIDE) and we thoroughly enjoyed the evening. ;)
