We met up at The Hacienda hotel and pretty much set off on our way to Big Sur. This was the longest driving day which probably worked out well as we spent most of the journey getting to know other people in the group.
On the way we stopped off to see a colony of Elephant Seals. The landscape was incredible; its not hard to see why the Pacific Coast Highway is seen as one of the most scenic drives in the world. Its not the quickest though, the bends and twists mean time added on to the journey, especially when travelling in a van with a huge trailer!
We arrived at our campground and set up our tents before having dinner. Our group was an uneven number so I was in a tent on my own. The campground wasn't the best and my camping mat struggled to soften the stones that were wedged in to the hard ground. I woke at about 2 in the morning to the sound of rustling near our food boxes and the dog at the camp next to us barking. I hoped it was only a raccoon....
I woke up feeling excited for the trip to San Francisco!
