It took forever to get to Hawaii. We left out of Tampa, Fl  early in the morning and headed towards Atlanta. Once we got to Atlanta, I thought we would never make it to Hawaii. We were scheduled to fly to California and then off to Hawaii. We boarded the plane but never took off. We had to de-board the plane and had to wait for another plane. We knew if we waited too long we would miss our flight in California, so we waited in line and we were able to catch a direct flight to Hawaii. 9 hours long. I wasn't sure if my legs would allow me to sit that long. But finally, late into the night we made it to Hawaii. FYI on Lei's: in the movies you see everyone getting a  lei, this is only if you have paid someone to buy you a lei or friends are picking you up. If you arrive, and no one knows you are coming to Hawaii, you will watch everyone else get a lei.  Tiff and Greg were there to pick us up and I was so glad to see them, so tired, but yet not tired because I had taken so many sleeping pills to get me through the flight. Wanting to catch up, but needing to get to bed and unpack. Getting ready for the 1st day on the Island. Very excited to be back "home"

TIPS: RENT A CAR. Buy the book, Oahu Revealed and Maui Revealed. Follow his advice, he is very accurate! (We stayed with friends while on Oahu, so I have no suggestions for lodging here, but on Day 5 we found a Wonderful place to stay on Maui).

*I lived in Hawaii for 2 years, so some of my suggestions come from prior experience to this trip.

I have been to Hawaii six times in the last ten years that included all of the above. This trip sounds excellent. I would take it .

Traveled to Hawaii twice in the past 10 yrs. Stayed in a hotel off the beach. didn't like it. So the Second time stayed in a beach front hotel. Got the flower lei greeting both times because it was part of itenerary from a popular online travel service. The flight back on the first was awful. Left around noon Hawaii time, layed over in LA for six hours and didn't get back to Houston till the following day.

HI JO,

WHOM EVER TOLD YOU TO STAY AWAY FROM MUST NOT APPERCIATE THE BEAUTY OF NATURE. IT IS ONE OF THE ONLY PLACES IN THE WORLD THAT YOU CAN WALK OUT ON AND SEE THE LAVA FLOW FROM AN ACTIVE VOLCANO. IF YOU ARE GOING FOR THE PARTYING SCEEN STAY IN HONOLULU. BUT IF YOU WANT TO APPERCIATE HAWAII FOR ITS NATURAL BEAUTY EXPLOR AS MANY OF THE ISLANDS THAT YOU CAN. WE NEVER MAKE A TRIP TO HAWAII WITHOUT VISITING THE BIG ISLAND NO MATTER WHAT OTHER ISLANDS WE VISIT.

I was in Oahu, Hawaii last November for 5 days and I did enjoy my stay there at Waikiki... The first day I was there, right away we went to the visitors welcoming center... They treated all the visitors with free breakfast and they talked about places where to go and see... They also have those tour tickets that you can purchase and you can pick which of the places you want to explore while you are there.... Everyday, I was busy taking the tour of the Islands, the Pearl Harbor, Dole Pineapple Plantation, etc., and went hiking one day to see the waterfalls.... Waikiki is always a busy place, full of tourists from all kinds of diversities.... When I was there, I feel safe walking to the beach, to the International Market... My hotel I stayed is just a walking distance from the beach and to the International Market.. I even had a view of the ocean from my hotel balcony... It is just too bad though that I went alone, nobody with me, since I am a single person... I wish, I had someone with me that time, so romantic place walking on the beach at night time... lol.... It was worth a time to go there, I'd kept myself busy everyday on touring and exploring the Hawaiian Island, except the big Island though.... I am intend to go back there again whenever I have a chance to take days off from work.... I'd only noticed though that everything there are so expensive, so save a lot of money for spending....... Mahalo !!

We stayed in a house on Kailua Beach. Go to Patskailua.com, they have rentals from one bed room on up. We only paid $90 per night, it wasn't fancy but it was fine. We could walk across the street at night and stroll along the beach...It's heaven on earth! Walking distance to a nice resturant. We were just a few blocks from Lanikai Beach, which is beautiful, better than all the pictures you see. We really didn't have any certain plans what we were going to do, we just knew we wanted to see Pearl Harbor, go to a Luau, and ride horses along the beach. We went for our 30th anniversary...it was unforgetable! I hope to go back in the next year or two. The cost of our trip for 10 days was must cheaper than going to Vegas for 4 days. An I enjoyed Hawaii much more. We ate a nice meal every evening which cost around 45-60 each night, which was not bad, since you pay that much here in the states at Red Lobster or Outback. I highly recommend going if you get the chance!

There is a Hummer tour on the far side of Oahu. We went to some ranch where the tour started. We got to see where movies were shot. We stood in the footprints of Godzilla where Matthew Brodrick stood, Wind Talkers battle scene (the owner of the tour just retired from the Marines and was in the movie as an extra), 50 First Dates, Lost and many others. It was really entertaining, he would play a DVD with the movie shots we were going to see. Then he would proceed after you had viewed the shot and go around the corner or over the hill, BOOM! You are there, Godzilla, Jurassic Park, 50 first dates. We also got to explore bunkers on the ranch dating back from WWII and learn the history of the ranch. We had more fun than we could at Universal Studios.

We went to Waikiki in December. It was beautiful. I cried the day we left. Waikiki is definitely a big city with lots of shopping, especially expensive shopping, such as Louis Vitton, Coach, etc. We stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village for most of the stay and the Outrigger Reef for 2 nights. The Outrigger was a nicer hotel, but the beach at the Hilton is much better. Duke's was the best place we ate. My favorite part of the trip was driving up the windward coast to Northshore, where it seemed like there was one postcard scene after another. We spent one day on the big island to tour the volcanoes which was pretty interesting. Go to the swap meet at Aloha Stadium for cheap souveniers. Avoid the Navetec whale watching cruise unless you don't mind spending big bucks for mediocre food and no whales.

I have been to the Islands 13 times and would love any time that I was able to go back. Included was Molokai(3x) and a short visit to Lanai. Each island has something special and at least 5-7 days on each one will allow someone to really appreciate the beauty and the people. Mahalo & Aloha until my next visit.
