So I officially started the planning process - a.k.a. moved on from the vague dream and started laying concreate details. Didn't make a lot of progress - (only had an hour lunch break, lol) - but found some promising sites to get me started and created a list of ALL the countries I would like to include if time and $$ were not an issue.
Countries to (hopefully) Visit:
1) Ireland (already visited, not a must)
2) England (same as Ireland)
3) Wales (not a must)
4) Scotland (a must!)
5) French countryside (not a must)
6) Spain (not a must)
7) Italy (a must!)
8) Czech Republic
9) Greece (a must!)
10) Turkey (a must - at least Troy, lol)
11) Egypt (a must, but only for the ancient history!)
12) Switzerland (not a must)
13) the Netherlands (esp. if it's during the time of the midnight sun!)
Since now leaving the vaguely Europe-related countries, these are not a must for the 1st trip, but def for the 2nd!
15) S. Korea (not a must)
16) China (not a must)
17) Japan (a must!)
18) New Zealand (a must!)
19) Australia (a must!)
20) Indonesia (not a must)
21) Thailand (not a must)
22) India (not must)
Now leaving the Asian/Oceanic hemisphere; possible addition to 1st/2nd trip or possible 3rd trip all together
1) W. USA (lol, no I know, not a country, but one travel goal is to get to all the states and am severly lacking in W and S of the US - oh, and New England, another trip, lol)*
2) Costa Rica (a must!)
3) Puerto Rico (a must!)
4) Panama (not a must)
5) Venezuala (not a must)
6) Brazil (only for the ancient history and Amazon)
7) Mexico (only for the ancient history)
So, I seriously doubt that I will get to all of them in one shot, but might as well start big. :-D Anyway, the sites I found...
"6 Months Before You Travel" - an article with tips on where to start planning, looks well written and with some good points
"Tips for the Trip of your Life" - tips on how to backpack the world (or Europe, lol)
"Eurotrip" - has a nice tool to help create itineraries and gather advice
"Cost?" - a list of estimations of cost of backpacking through Europe
"Guide For Europe" - looks like another good place to start gathering info
"Itinerary Planning" - a step by step guide to making an itinerary, might have some useful tips
"Mastering your itinerary" - more tips on itineraries
"How to Save Money" - title says it all, lol
