Sap is a fire retardant and bark can be up to 6" thick...
Fire is needed to open the cones and clear the forest of debris so the new seeds can root themselves...
Tree roots are only 3' deep and can topple over if conditions are unfavorable...
The general Sherman tree in Sequoia National Park is the largest living thing on earth.

The photos only make this worse for me to find the way to take my husband there for our 15th wedding anniversary. He is due to retire in the next 5 years, but our health is getting to a point that if we wait until he retires, we most likely won't see that beautiful area that we have dreamed of. Thank you for those goregeous photos!
