As is usual with our road trips, we got a late start, what with prepping and packing up the doggies and shuttling them to Camp Bow Wow. But darn it, by 10 am we were off! Took the typical non-descript drive up I 65 to I 90 and then...CONSTRUCTION. I used to think Indiana was the home of eternal, pointless construction, but now, after a decade's worth of trips to Chicago, it is clear to me that Illinois is the land of the uncompleted road project. Going through Chicago added an hour and a half to our trip. If there are any ferry company operators out there--c'mon, Gary to Milwaukee! Has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?

ving grown up on Lake Ontario, it was odd to experience a Great Lake without the accompanying odor of dead fish...) We had fish fry at the D.C. Deli. I had a Spotted Cow - a pretty sweet wheat beer without all the wheatiness. The fried perch was good, the cole slaw was great, and the servers were friendly. The place wasn't busy at all on a Friday night - either we missed the rush, or it's just not as established as some of the other restaurants in town (the decor seemed very new). After dinner, I got a Death's Door chocolate cone at the Door County Ice Cream Factory...yumm-EE. We walked a bit more, and took in the late stages of the sunset over the bay.
