The place also known as Murphys Beach Park
The place also known as Murphy's Beach Park... none of the locals knew where Murphy's Beach Park. Nobody we talked to called it by that name. Still the place also known as Murphy's beach park is a nice family beach in a protected bay. There is a steep narrow white sand beach edging a flat shallow bottom of broken coral clear of sediment. No restrooms or facilities of any kind except for roadside parking. We were there at high tide - I would think it would be very shallow at low water. The tourist literature touts this place as a snorkeling spot which I guess means that one can snorkel here safely. It is likely to by uninteresting to most folks. In close to shore the bottom features little habitat for fish although there are tiny critters thriving in the broken coral, little holes and among the few rocks edging the left point of the bay. Still, humuhumu, manini, weke, hinolea and other wrasses, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, corals, and tentacled critters live here, and will be easy to spot. There is an ancient stone wall, collapsed in places at the east end of the beach with some huge stones that might have been housed by the wall - perhaps this had once been a sacred place.
