Thing to Do

So the fun part begins...planning. I leave for Italy in 2 weeks and I am super excited, it will be my first time there. When I come home, I want to really get to planning this backpacking trip for next summer. I really want to see as much of Europe as possible, as I am off to grad school in the fall of 2010. I graduate in December of this year, and my best friend graduates in May so we hittin the road!! If anyone has any suggestions as to where we should start, I'd appreciate any input. I really want to see Ireland, but I've heard it is cheaper to fly into London. Does anyone know how the travel works between Edinburgh and London?
1. Budapest, Hungary. the castle district is stunning. Take the train to (4 hrs)
2. Novi Sad, Serbia. An small friendly city built in Austro-Hungarian style. Take the bus to (1.5hrs)
3. Belgrade, Serbia. Way off the beaten path and the party capital of the Balkans. Take an overnight bus to
4. Budva/St. Stefan, Montenegro. Old medival town/gorgeous island resort. From there work your way up to some other medival towns on Route to Croatia (there are shared vans and cabs who run the route and each town is about 30 min away)- go to Perast if you have time. Its out of the way but stunning. Stop in Kotor (and you must go to Maximus the best club in the region. Stop in Herceg Novi. From here you can get a tour company to take you across the boarder to
5. Dubrovnik. Croatia. The pearl of the adriatic. Amazing. Dont miss the nightly parade. From here you can visit the rest of the islands- Krk, Hvar, etc. (Im not sure what you want to see but the best of the coast is in this area. If you are set on Zagreb, its a 6 hr bus ride from Belgrade and then Im sure there are buses down to the coast and just work your way down). When you are done, come back to Tivat, Montenegro to the airport where Montenegro airlines can fly you to
6. Corfu. Greece. Ancient fort in Kerkura (Corfu) town up north, party in the south. From here you can hop ferries to different islands (Cephalonia is awesome). When your done you take the bus to (10hrs)
7. Athens, Greece.
If you have time, you should got to the islands south of Athens. From them you can take a ferry into Turkey. Izmir will lead you to the ruins of Ephisus (an ancient Roman city incredibly preserved). Work your way up to Istambul. From there you can work your way up the black sea to Costantsa, Romania, Which can take you to Bucharest adn then to Bran (Transylvania- Dracula's castle). To Finish the loop you go first to Brasov (university town at the base of a ski resort mountain) then to Sibiu (German-esce medival town)and catch a bus back to Novi Sad or Budapest. Its an amazing trip if you have the time. Lemme know if you have questions Ive been through all of it several times.
