GRISWOLD DAY --
Started out the morning from Las Vegas. Drive was good. Kids were getting hungry so we decided to stop in St. George, Utah for Sonic Burger for breakfast. I haven't been to Sonic yet, but the kids say its great. I was looking forward to trying their frito burrito. As we're heading up the exit ramp, a crash happens in front of us. We couldn't see it, but it involve a student driver, a cadillac, and a 90 year old man. When we approached, th e 90 year old man gets out of a car with his cane, and there are 3 other cars all in a row, with the middle one saying "Student Driver" on it, with it's passenger rear tire mangled, and debris all over the exit ramp. We end up driving over some crash debris as we exit the ramp, and we here the tires make noise as the debris crumbles. We drive into town for Sonic Burger. It turns out, Sonic is closed. Actually, barren -- the sign is there but it's out of business. We stop at the gas station next to it. It turns out to be full serve, so Justin comes by to help us. I pump my gas, so he talks to us how he wants to live in Durango, Colorado, but he doesn't know where it is, and other assorted fun facts about the town. He tells us there's another Sonic Burger, but its further South on the I-15, so we bag on it. We go to Subway instead, just down the road.
After getting Subway sandwiches for breakfast, I check on our tires from the accident. We have a flat tire. The rear tire that made the noises as we crossed the debris is half flat. We call AAA and they send over a nice man. His picture is in this journal. He pumps up our tire with air and says there's a tire store about a half mile down the road. On his tow truck is one of the cars involved in the accident. It's the Cadillac! Ramone shows us the tire store and we drive down. While waiting for service, we can hear the tire hissing as it leaks out. They patch the tire and we're on our way.
We're a couple hours behind schedule. We drive into Green River, Utah for Ben's Cafe. It's closed. They have a sign outside with their Friday specials, but they are closed. We settle for the return choice, Chowhound. Chowhound is open and the girl says she heard Ben's was gooing out of business. Chowhound serves great burgers. kids like it. We get the crisp burritios. They deep fry some frozen burritos. The beef tastes better than the bean. All in all, it was great food for the price. The kids were full from Burgers and we're off to Moab.
