Whew – we’re done with Day 1 of our trip! John and I are relaxing a bit in our hotel room in Winchester , KY right now after a long, but good day. We were both up early to finish packing and tie up loose ends. After filling the car to the brim, we left DC at about 9 o’clock.
We zipped along to the west and the south, through Virginia and into West Virginia . Our lunch destination was Tamarack in Beckley , WV , a location suggested by our WV-native friend, Stephen. The food was excellent and we enjoyed browsing through the local arts and crafts – the “Best of West Virginia!”
We also listened to the first CD “book” of the trip – The Magician’s Nephew which is the first book in the Chronicles of Narnia series. It was an excellent story and it also helped the final three hours of driving go a bit faster.
It was about 6:00 when we pulled into our hotel in Winchester , and after unpacking, we heeded the recommendation of the hotel desk manager and went to Barton’s Steakhouse for dinner.
That’s Day 1! Good night!
P.S. I just found out I need a Flickr account in order to post photos to this trip journal, so the pictures will have to wait until tomorrow.
