Just 3 days and counting until we leave. Still deciding what to bring, but based on the weather forecast, we're going to be ready for cooler weather than we thought. That's ok, we're ready to get out. Probably won't be camping this trip though.
We made it South Dakota, staying just outside in Keystone, SD. We visited Andrew in Fort Collins on our way up this morning. Here's stream of photos from today. Rained a good bit, but great scenery.
We visited Mount Rushmore, see the pictures at the link below. Pretty amazing! The weather's improved, still cloudy and in the 60s, but great for walking around. http://gallery.me.com/lisajoe1/100148
The room is working out great, close to everything and comfortable cabin in the woods. We used the hot tub this morning and ate breakfast on the porch, it was great.
Keystone SD is full of beautiful pine forests, not yet effected by the beetle blight found in Colorado. Yesterday afternoon we visited Crazy Horse~Worlds' Largest Mountain carving~Now in Progress. It took 50 yrs. just to finish the head. We'll have to come back again in 50 years to see if they finished it. The artist, Korczak from Boston, turned mountain man died in 82 leaving the project to his family of 12. Check out the photos.

Nobody gets in to see the Wizard. Not nobody, not no how!!! TWOOZ - love the pix and the cowboy hat. Inspiring me to wear mine... how you're enjoying the trip. : )
Three days in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Today we took a drive to Custer State Park on the Peter Norbeck scenic byway. Beautiful! The road bends, there are 5 narrow tunnels with cool views through. We found 2 geocaches along the way, took a hike up to Cathedral Spires and biked around Sylvan Lake. Sylvan Lake is the site of the last scene in National Treasure 2, where they find the treasure in the area. Its a great location, someone was getting married on the shore there.
Its pouring out now thunder and lightning - good to be inside in a cabin and not in our tent. We'd be struggling to stay dry. Sounds great on the roof.
Really enjoyed the Black Hills, the trees and terrain is great. Tomorrow we head to Wyoming. Plan to visit Devils Tower and stay in Buffalo.
Yesterday we traveled West through Devil's Tower National Monument. I was impressed, it was different than anything else I've ever seen. Beautiful forest and prairie combined with a one of a kind rock formation. They're looking for a camp host for the summer, hmm, career change? We'll see.
Then we stopped in Buffalo, Wyoming for a (planned) night stay at the historic Occidental Hotel. Since it exceeded our expectations, we decided to stay another night. Today's our 24th wedding anniversary so we're celebrating by hanging out at the saloon.
