Europe Backpacking Trip 2008

A trip from May 22, 2008 to August 30, 2008, travelling to Dublin, Coblenz, Amsterdam, Bruges, Brussels …
This was my graduation gift to myself - my very own Grand … More
This was my graduation gift to myself - my very own Grand Tour of Europe. I left just a few days after I graduated from college and spent 100 days traipsing around, seeing all that Europe has to offer. God, I wish I were still there.

Lazing around the Rhine

So, I hopped on the train to Koblenz bright and early. Turns out I had accidentally picked the scenic train - nice! I sat next to a German couple who were going to the Mosel Valley for a wine tasting tour. They taught me how to say "youth hostel" and a few other choice phrases in German. Arrived in Koblenz and tried to get directions to my hostel - it was located in a former fortress, high up on a hill overlooking the Rhine River. I had to use my new knowledge of German at the tourist office - the girl working there didn't understand "youth hostel", but fortunately I was able to say that I was looking for the "jugendherberge". ImageMade it to the hostel (I had to take a chair lift up the hill - it was so cool!) and found out that it was a very good thing I had booked it in advance. Almost the entire hostel was booked for a Renaissance festival going on in the courtyard of the fortress! Also very cool.

I decided to hop over to Luxembourg City just to say that I've been to Luxembourg. My favorite part was actually the train ride along the Mosel River. The view was absolutely breathtaking.

The next day I took advantage of the benefits that come with my Eurail pass (if the pass covers Germany, you can ride the KD cruise line along the Rhine and Mosel for free!). I spent the day cruising the Rhine, checking out the castles and vineyards. Beautiful. And a great way to recover from jet lag. Today was just as lazy as yesterday. I went for a cruise along the Mosel, sampled some local wines, and listen to Wagner on my iPod. It was Gotterdammerung - I thought it was appropriate. Had doner kebab for dinner. Perfect.

Devinne, my entry and exit points for my European backpacking trip this year are the same as yours was on this 2008 trip. I hear a lot about people using a cobination of transportation around Europe and have a question for you. The eurorail passes are per country or a few border countries, since you went all over like I plan to, what option did you decide? What was the best way to get around? :)

i have a 3 bedrooms flat in madrid. It is a nice flat in a very safe neighbothood only 10 minutes from the very center ifmadrid. I live in san diego, so the place is empty mostly because i am afraid of renting it though an agency to spanuers. The spanish law protrect renters with kids and even if they don't pay the rent, i need to takr them to court.
any way,,, i prefer torent it to americans that i can meet here and ideally they would rent it for like a year. We can discuss the price.

Hello everyone. I wanted to know if anyone can help me with this problem I have. I went to Florence, Italy and found a restaruant called "i tre pini" I had a glass of wine there and it was sweet and tasted kinda like jolly rancher candy. The lable on the bottle was red but I can't seem to recall the name of the wine. Was wondering if anyone out there has been and tried that same wine and if they can share with me the name. Thank so much and have many beautiful travels.
