This was my graduation gift to myself - my very own Grand Tour of Europe. I left just a few days after I graduated from college and spent 100 days traipsing around, seeing all that Europe has to offer. God, I wish I were still there.

My first day here and I'm already exhausted

ImageSo, I left Boston last night and arrived in Dublin very early this morning. I had a 10-hour layover before my connecting flight to Frankfurt, so I took a coach into the city and did some sightseeing. I checked out St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin Castle, and Trinity College. Did some wandering around, and then hopped back onto a coach to go back to the airport. Only to find that my connecting flight was two hours late.

I finally got to Frankfurt at about 21.00 (at this point, I had been awake for about 36 hours - I couldn't sleep on the plane), only to find that my backpack was missing. I reported it, all the while thinking, "Oh no, it's only my first day here and I've lost everything!" Found out that my bag (which I had checked in Boston) had actually arrived on time, while I didn't. Every wonder about those lonely bags that go round and round on the belt that no one claims? I have. Turns out that their owners just have a delayed flight. Anyway, I got my bag back, validated my Eurail pass, and took a train into Frankfurt proper. Checked into my hostel at about 22.30. I am exhausted, and I have to be up bright and early tomorrow to catch a train to Koblenz. I'm going to bed.

This sounds interesting I will continue reading the rest. I am in the planning stage of a European trip early Summer this year. I plan to use Eurail to visit over 20 countries. I plan to also visit Ukraine though that would be via a train other than Eurail. The easiest, and most logical, souvenir (for me) is foreign currency. Just a small amount of change, and of course my passport stamped. Usually a souvenir is an item that sits and isn't used. On the occasion that it is a shirt, or shot glasses(another favorite people like), I see those as items that if used will wear out or break respectively. Clothing is an item I have to pack anyway so I don't want to carry even more clothing by buying it as a souvenir and nothing breakable. Money is small, easily portable, unbreakable, will retain some value, and can slide into the small voids that are almost always left when packing.
