We had to wake up at 5:30a to get out of the house by 6 for our 8am flght, yuck. The flight itself wasn't anything to be exicted about, 2 1/2 hours from MIA-Houston; 1 1/2 hr layover; 2 1/2 hrs from Houston to Ixtapa. The final leg to Ixtapa was in one of those little planes, as the airport there is tiny. At least customs was painless and quick. We were in a cab 15 min after landing.
The first thing I noticed was how much warmer it was compared to Miami, and the sun was just shining away, it was going to be a gorgeous weekend for a beach wedding getaway. The drive from the airport to Las Brisas was about 15-20 min., with a typical view of how life is really lived in Mexico, outside of the polished resorts. Lots of laundry on wires, satellite dishes, window sills. Lots of people crammed into the cabs of old pickup trucks. I did see a sign outside of a small shop advertising micheladas- which of course made me crave a spicy beer. (I really believed that micheladas were something invented by american mexicans in santa barbara- nice to confirm that their "legit" from mexico!)
Our hotel room was adorable. Simple, tile floor, but a big (hard :( ) bed, a cute little sitting area and a balcony with a hammock that overlooks the ocean. It's perfect.
We meet up with Scotty and Ellen and their friends and family for the "Welcome Fiesta" . Ellen looked gorgeous as always, Scotty happy as ever. We all hopped in a bus to go to "Paty's", a resturant on the sand, on the beach. Just the type of place you could dream of owning someday, after retiring from the real world.
