Old Fat Guy's on Bikes - Sept 2008 Tour

This trip was planned and talked about (as most are with us) over the phone or in person. John Brown and myself  wanted to do some riding up north. We tried to include Dave, but like most of the time he doesn't know what he is doing until the day we are leaving.

John wanted to go to New Hampshire at first. We also talked about riding across Route 6 in northern PA, Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway, or Ocean City for Bike Week, among other places. John wanted to do this in September, sometime towards the end of the month (in order for him to build up the vacation time needed). I tried to plan it for then, but was also trying to work it out with a current project at Nucor Steel in Decatur, AL. Then, we were trying to get Dave into the picture. Who never knows what is happening with his job.

We finally picked a week to do it (at the last possible moment as usual). The week before leaving, we were in agreement about the time but not the place. John and I decided to meet his place and plan it out from there.

Then, the two nights before, John called me and cancelled the trip. However, I still had the time off of work and planned on going somewhere. I talked to Dave about this and he was still game (he needed to get away from work before he killed someone). I talked to John again...we talked about maybe going to his house and using it as a base. We could stay with him and take shorter trips from there. Thus letting him get involved in the riding as well.

This finally got John, Dave and I together for some riding time. Dave (and myself as far as that goes) wanted to do more than just that. On the way up, we discussed our possibilities. As we were waiting on John in a diner, we looked at a map and made up a plan. We hooked up with John and ran the idea by him.  With that, the trip was born.........Three "OLD FAT GUYS" on bikes.
