yo, i'm going to recommend a couple vegan doughnut shops, one in portland: http://voodoodoughnut.com/ and one in seattle: http://www.mightyo.com/ i've been to both, highly recommend them. plus voodoo doughnuts is near this arcade which sometimes has random heavy metal shows: http://www.groundkontrol.com/ the games are okay, the beer is cheap, and the music is sometimes crap. what's better than that? in vancouver try this strip of good italian cafes, other coffee shops, a bowling alley (canadian bowling is different, seriously) some ethiopian restaurants, a good bike shop and some ridiculous hippies (not unlike S.F.!): http://is.gd/CJYl
sorry, it's probably sacrilige (?) to link you to a google map. anyway, that strip of commercial between venables street and e. 9th ave is what i was referring to. mostly up near the intersection of e. 1st ave but a few blocks in either direction. vancouver is pretty walkable and their subway/train system is controlled, like in germany (though i know you always buy your ticket)
Hey Matt - just noticed you were going to Seattle - I was just there - you should check out "Serious Pie" - it's a great pizza place in Seattle - go for Happy Hour from 3-5 each day. Have fun!
Portland is a very Bike-friendly City - and many stores give u a discount for riding - so carry your helmet. All Buses have racks, and you can take a Bike on MAX Light Rail to quickly zip to another sector of the city for exploration. MANY miles of Bike Lanes, free parking, events year round. Yes, Thousands ride year-round, even in the rain. Be sure the bike you ride has GREAT lights, not just one tiny flashing light....night motorists have a HARD time seeing you at the speed they travel. Search BTA 4 Bikes for Maps, info, events. Enjoy!
