Hello from Memphis
I watched the Atlanta skyline fade in my rear view mirror a little later in the morning than I had planned but that didn't make it any less sweet. FINALLY .... After months of planning I am on the road. I turned up the music and took I 20 west out of the Peach state headed toward Birmingham, AL. The sun was bright, the sky was a brilliant blue and the clouds were so big and puffy you could have easily jumped from one to another. I picked up US 78 in Birmingham and continued west through Tupelo, MS, the birth place of Elvis Presley. Spent some time hearing a bit of gospel music in the church he attended as a child. It reminded me of the church I grew up in. I also went in the tiny two room house where he was born. His dad borrowed $180 to build it but couldn't afford to pay it back so it was lost. The same year Elvis bought Graceland he was able to buy his childhood home. After getting a few road necessities (hot boiled peanuts and a Slim Jim) I continued west on 78. I rolled into Memphis with just enough time to catch the last shuttle through the mighty gates of Graceland. I must say I was thoroughly impressed by the home of the King of Rock n' Roll even with its green shag carpets. I stood in awe of the endless rows of awards, sequined jump suits and even his pink Cadillac. Today’s 400 miles was full of music heritage with a tasty touch of Memphis BBQ. :)

I wish I could have been that brave at such a young age.
So since I'm the oldest sister, I can tell you to..Please, Please be careful and don't pick up no one-armed man with hooded jackets (smile)

I'm a stranger stuck in a far away place right now, in Iraq! I have just begun planning a cross country trip myself and I'm excited to see how yours goes. I'll be here with you til the end! I plan on taking my husband with me on the trip, but have thought of other people I'd like to go with or even just going by myself. I'm excited for you, just as much as I'm excited for myself. Thanks for the confidence and encouragement you portray to all of us other female discoverers.
Sincerely,
Rochelle
