The trip has finally started.... After doping the cats we left Houston about 7:00 this morning. Took I-10 to Louisiana. Drove by the Jeff Davis Park in LA but when Geri thought he fought at the Alamo. I was laugh so hard we missed the exit. Finally saw the Mississippi River but because of the rain we couldn't stop of pictures.
Did make a quick stop at the Harley Store in Hammond, LA to purchase a shirt.
Some interesting facts about Louisiana:
-You can buy liquire at the gas stations.
-There are Dairy Queens and Whataburgers in LA regardless what Nolan says
-They call there cities "corp"
Finally around 1:30 we crossed the Mississippi border. There was not alot to see but trees and a few houses. I guess that should not be surprising since there are more people in Houston then the whole state of Mississippi. The lasted 50 miles of the trip was on Natchez Trace Pkwy which took us thru the Tombigbee National Forest but after about twenty miles I got bored and started looking for wildlife including Bigfoot. We did see the Witch Dance stop but there was not even one witch.
Got to Tupelo at 6:00 this evening. Tomorrow we are going to explore and take picture.
This travel log is pretty cool! Keep us updated and be safe! Love ya'll!
Final the whole reason we stopped in Tupelo Elvis Presley (EP) Birthplace. We toured the museum and the house where he was born. The house was only two rooms and 450 square feet. The ladies that worked in the museum gave us some ideas for lunch and dinner.
Now the trip finally gets interesting….. We ate lunch at Johnnie’s Drive In (Elvis ate here as a child). I had an EP Burger (there is flour and water mixed in w/the meat) and Geri had a BBQ sandwich. The BBQ is different here but it is great. For dinner we ate at BBQ by Jim - again the food was great. I had a BBQ sandwich which has coleslaw on it.
Look out Memphis here we come…………..
Sounds like the trip's going well! I spent some time in Mississippi and you're right, not as many people as one might think. Can't wait to see all the pics - especially of the Jets. I hope you get to see The Bret at some point while you're in NY. Take care and have fun!!!
Hugs,
Adrien
Second, Chris thinks there are 6 American presidents from Virginia and I wouldn't let him google it before I posted.
Third, Was it Lee Harvey Oswald? Just kidding. I should know this since there was a whole park dedicated to Stonewall Jackson in the next town over from Buckhannon but there you go.
There may be a bunch of mountains out east, but see how much history you are experiencing? And don't worry, we drove in circles trying to get to Arlington Cemetery too. Did you get to see the Iwo Jima monument?
Where next? I can't wait to find out!
