Austin to Amarillo

We left Austin around 10 am.  We drove through West Texas and stopped at Texas Road House in Abilene for lunch.  We had reserved seats for the Texas! Musical at Palo Duro Canyon, but actually arrived in Canyon earlier than expected, so we went ahead and drove to S. Amarillo to check into our hotel.  After checking in and resting for a few minutes, we drove to Palo Duro Canyon to see the musical.  The musical was great, and a perfect ending to a long day in the car.

We will be traveling from Los Angeles, California this Aug. going to see family. But on the way there I would like to stop at in between places to take the grandkids. Are last stop would be El Paso, Texas. Arizona has the Grand Canyon but do to the situation that's happing right now my husband doesn't like the idea of us going there so that lives it out. And New Mexico well I know they have the Carlsbad Caverns. So what else is there to see?
