Our annual fourth of July trip took us to Colorado this year. We camped in Rocky Mountain National Park, and spent some time in Denver and Boulder as well.
oooh!! i love the neighborhood by cheesman park. it's a great park -- i've had several friends live in that area and did some volunteer work in that area back in college. ahhh denver...... i must return soon!
I live in the foothills east of Estes and thought you might like to know: the picture of the beaver on Trail Ridge is not a beaver-it's a marmot, the mountain version of a groundhog. You can tell by its tail.
Sounds like you had a great time :) I just reserved a campsite in Moraine. We usually stay in Glacier Basin, but thought we would give another area a try. We will be going down to watch the fireworks (great show, but its been about 12 years since I saw it). Hopefully there are some other activities going on in Estes. Nice pictures.
I took a very similar path for a roadtrip in 2007 with an old friend from Colorado ... saw the tundra growth, glacial lakes, a haunted hotel with hundreds of hummingbirds, stayed at the Stanley Hotel (over 100 rooms, supposedly the inspiration for Stephen King's "The Shining")... but the site of Estes Park from the top of the hill going is my favorite memory. Gorgeous!
