Got into New York on a beautiful Wed. afternoon. Checked into the Marriott Marquis without a hitch. We asked if they had any upgrades and the Marriott upgraded our room to a partial Times Square view. Honestly I didn't see what was so partial about the view. It was amazing. After unwinding for a bit we took a walk around Times Square to get the lay of the land. Stopped by the Toys R Us and promised to return to ride the Ferris Wheel some other day. Walked on over to dinner at the classic theater district restaurant,
Sardi's to have a light pre-theater dinner and to gaze at the "
unflattering portaiture " and tried to guess who was who. I'm a big fan of the old 50's-60's game show
What's My Line ? so it was quite thrilling to be seated thisclose to Arlene Francis's picture. Yay, Sardi's! After Sardi's we mosied next door to the Helen Hayes theater. We had onstage tickets to see
Xanadu . It was a ridiculous amount of fun and such a treat to sit on the stage. Yes, you get a lot of the actors' backs, but you get so much more. Kerry Butler (Kira) made a goofy face at my daughter and Mary Testa (Melpomene) offered us popcorn. After the show we walked on over to a wonderful place called Etcetera Etcetera for another small bite. Great first day New York!
