First stop on the journey was Big Bone Lick State Park which is just across the river in Kentucky. It is a beautiful park detailing the fossles and digs of the area. They also have live Bison that you can watch, which my kids really enjoyed. They thought they were "cool", and so did I to be honest. It's a really neat park and we are going back this summer.
Next stop along the way was in Switzer, Ky. on the hunt for the Switzer Covered Bridge. As you can see we found it, lol. It has been shut down for traffic since the 50's, but has been preserved very well except for the graffitti on the inside walls and floor. Unfortunatlly that is a common occurance in bridges that are no longer in use. other than that it is a very beautiful bridge and we need to do more to try and preserve them.
An unscheduled stop along the way was at Fort Boonsborro. There were alot of people there dressed in 18th century clothing weaving, blacksmithing, and all that other stuff they had to do back then just to survive. there was also a short movie on how the fort came to be. it was very educational and interresting.
After checking in to our hotel we went to Cumberland Falls. It is a very beautiful waterfall known as "the niagra of the south". it is 128 feet wide with a 68 foot drop. It's georgeous. my pics don't even come close to doing it justus. you gotta see it in person. the whole family can't wait to go back.
