Overnight Flight

[photos to be added at a later date]

To say that my friend, Bon, and I got to the airport early is an understatement.  Bearing traffic in mind, we decided to leave her house around 17:00 to allot ourselves plenty of time to get to the airport.  We arrived at SFO approximately 4 hours before our flight was scheduled to take off.  We were already pass the security checkpoint and sitting at the gate terminal approximately 3 hours before departure time, and that's after having a leisurely dinner at Osho and being stopped at the security checkpoint for having a water bottle in my bag.  I've never traveled on an airplane post 9/11, and completely forgot to dump the offending H20 bottle earlier.

I guess you could say we were over-eager.  A vacation, however short, was long overdue.

We traveled using JetBlue.  Having worked the night before, I was completely exhausted this whole day.  I was already dozing in and out at the gate terminal.  The flight to NYC passed by as a blur.  The flight crew was friendly, answered all lights promptly.  They offered drinks and snacks (chips, cookies, etc.) in the middle of the night; we took an overnight flight which departed at 22:40 from SFO.

Overall, no complaints regarding the flight.  There's a T.V. behind every head rest, so each person had their own T.V. set.  You could watch their free channels, or order yourself a movie.  Make note, they will no longer offer free ear phones after June 1 so make sure to bring your own or purchase theirs for $1.00 each.

Most of the flight was spent in and out of consciousness.  Fortunately, the fellow passengers around me were inclined to get some sleep as well so the noise level was kept to a minimum.

I believe the 3 horizontal scenes on each doors are scenes of the bible it actually says from which book and chapter. Take a look at them when you get there.

Historically both Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are important for everyone. However, I thought both were wastes of time. The lines..... .

I was reading your posting about your trip and want to tell the other people reading it a few things. I go to NY twice a year for fun not for work. I have NEVER had an issue on the subway system. I use it everytime I am there. Is it dirty? Yes and I can say I really don't like some of the smells but it is a great system. You need to be careful as you would any where. Regarding the World Trade Center Site, IT IS a construction ZONE! That's why it looks that way. They are rebuilding. You wouldn't have wanted to see the destruction trust me, I did. Regarding the lines that you had to stand in, IT IS HIGH SEASON NOW! You are going to have lines every where you go. If any of you out there can go in the winter or early fall that is the best time regarding the lines. The weather in September is GORGEOUS. And finally, the Statue of Liberty and the Ellis Island is not a waste of time for 99% of the people out there. To each his own....... Also,if you can afford to stay in a Hotel, do it.

I give you credit for staying in a hostel, not my cup of tea, I prefer a hotel. If you watch Hotwire and Priceline you can get realy cheap last minute hotels. I got a suite in the financial district for $199 per night the week before I left and it included free full breakfast and cocktail hour........good report so far! We love the grayline tour bus too!
