i'm planning to travel to brazil. it seems wonderful. however, i hear so much about the crime that i'm wondering if we should go somewhere else. mind you, i'm from new york city and am used to the big city thing but i still feel skeptical.

We did not have any problems with crime. We heard that you needed to go to extreme measures to be safe in Rio, but after arriving, we found it to much safer than we expected.

Yeah I also feel that the crime in Rio is probably not as bad as many say. I'm hitting the Dominican Rep next weekend for several day. Been there several times consecutively. I'm considering Rio, Brazil as my next destination although I don't know the language nor have been there before. But that's what traveling is all about huh, seeing, meeting and experiencing new places, cultures and people... Lol...

Any advice for a middle age, single, male who's a beach bum at heart?
