First day in Vegas!
We arrived to Las Vegas at around 4:00pm local time. The airport was busy, but was easy to navigate. Got our luggage pretty fast and stepped outside and found the Bell Trans line for a shuttle to our hotel, the Sahara. It was $11 a person for a round trip. It didn't take long to get to the Sahara as there was only one other couple on the shuttle. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the Sahara was inside and out. I had read a lot of negative reveiws online saying how run down and dirty it is, but I found it to be nice, clean, and very cheap. The room wasn't the fanciest and you could tell that it had been around for awhile, but I thought it was better than a Days Inn type of hotel and a lot better than paying $60-100 a night for a different hotel on the strip . Once we got checked in, which took about 5-10mins, we met Doug's brother Jason and his fiancee Jamie. It was the first time for me to meet both of them and Doug hadn't seen his brother in years. We all had purchased a Power Pass card before we got to Vegas and we needed to pick them up to do all the attractions. We hopped on the monorail (we got a 3 day pass for $28 a person) to get to the Fourm Shops at Caesars Palace. We had to head to Planet Hollywood to pick up the cards. The monorail is very nice and clean and it doesn't have a nasty smell like the Marta did in Atlanta. There is a northbound and a southbound and there's about 7 stops. We got off at the Flamingo/Caesars Palace station and made our way through the Flamingo. It was hard to navigate and we had to stop and ask how to get out of the hotel. Finally, we made our way to the Fourm Shops and I was amazed at how beautiful the place was. The ceilings were awesome and there were pretty fountains in the middle of the mall. There were very upscale shops such as Burberry, Chanel, Gucci, etc here and we had fun just window shopping as we tried to find our way to Planet Hollywood. Once we made it to Planet Hollywood, we picked up our passes which included $10 off at the Planet Hollywood gift shop or resturant each day. We were hungry by then and decided to use our $10 each to get dinner at Planet Hollywood. I was expecting more. It was pretty expensive and with $20 off, I still had to pay about $16 for Doug and I. Soda was about 3.99 and entrees ranged from about $10-$30. By that time, it was around 7pm Vegas time. I had planned to go to Fremont Street to catch the light show and also I had planned on going to Jillian's to use our Power Pass for a free game of bowling and then I had wanted to head to Neonopolis movie theater to use the Power Pass to see a free movie. By the time we got back on the monorail and got off at Sahara, we had to catch a taxi cab to get to downtown. It was about $20 roundtrip to get downtown. Jillian's and the movie theatre were already closed by the time we got there which confused me since they were supposed to be open until 11pm and midnight. We checked out the Fremont Street light show, which was neat, but not as exciting as I thought it would be. It lasted about 5mins or so. After that, we kind of walked around that area and ended up going into Golden Nugget and the Four Queens to sign up for a player's card. There wasn't much else to do after that, so we caught a taxi back to the Sahara and walked around that casino for a bit. Doug and I were pretty tired since we are used to central time which is 2 hours ahead of Vegas, so we headed up to our room for the night.
