Arrived in San Diego in the morning. It was bizarre flying over a hill and down into the bay. We hitched a ride in the car rental shuttle bus and picked up our rental car. It was another Chevy Cobalt. We were happy with it in Boston so were happy to use another one in San Diego. Five minutes later we were checking in to our hotel downtown. Be prepared to pay an extra parking charge if you stay downtown. Even with the parking charge, ,it's still less expensive to stay downtown versus near the beaches.
We went straight to Coronado to have lunch after unpacking. It was chilly (60's F, I'm a Floridian what can I say) and to conserve spending money we opted to split a $5 sub at Subway right across from the Hotel Del Coronado. Parking is cheap so we just replenished our meter and walked over to the oldest wooden resort in the USA. Going from North to South on the walkway that boarders the beach and the hotel you'll see rentable villas with personal glass enclosed hot tubs. You'll wish you could afford the excess but there's something to be said about the lack of privacy. I enjoyed the Vista Walk and the feeling of the hotel. There's a lot of history there and the Hotel loves to share it with you. If it were warmer I would have enjoyed the sun deck and the bar that sits on it.
