coca expedition

Coca should not be confused with the similarly named South American Cocoa bean from which chocolate is made:)

Members: Jan& Marek (Slovakia)

Duration: 22 days

-we are starting planning our journey here in Vail, Co, Usa...........we would like to see as much as possible so I believe its gonna be exhausting, beautiful, challanging, and funny....

I gave name to this trip COCA expedition...

Coca is a plant in the family Erythroxylaceae, native to north-western South America. The plant plays a significant role in traditional Andean culture. Its leaves are used by Andean cultures for medicinal and ceremonial purposes, and consumed for their mild stimulant effects either by chewing or as an herbal tea. Coca leaves are also the raw material from which the stimulant drug cocaine is extracted .....

Most travelers come to Puno as a means of getting to Lake Titicaca and seeing nearby Inca ruins, It is officially the Folkloric Center of Peru. Throughout the year, monthly festivals with music and dance fill the streets and bring out the photographers.

Puno is 12,350 ft (3827 m) above sea level, dry and cold, very cold at night. If you are senstive to the altitude, allow yoruself time to acclimatize to the altitude. Coca tea is available and seems to help the acclimatization process. The town is hospitable, with plenty of restaurants and lodging options, from the very basic to the luxurious. When you register at a smaller hotel, ask about the overnight heating. You might need your own sleeping bag for extra warmth. Reserve ahead for the February and November celebrations.

What did you do in Lima? If you pass through Lima you should visit the Museo Larco, in Pueblo Libre. It has a very interesting collection of erotica pottery that dates back 2,000 years.
